Terms & Conditions
These terms cover your use of ReccoBox. By making an account or using the site, you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the service.

What ReccoBox is
ReccoBox is a place to save recommendations — a link, and a short note about why it is worth it — and to keep or share them as lists. It is offered free of charge, as it is, and it is still early software.
Your account
You need an account to save anything. You do not need one to read a list someone shared with you. When you sign up you agree to:
- give a real email address you control, so we can verify it and help you back in;
- keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has it;
- be old enough to agree to a contract where you live — and at least 13 in any case;
- use one account for yourself, rather than pretending to be someone else.
You can delete your account at any time. Ask us at hello@reccobox.com and we will remove it — see the Privacy Policy for what that deletes and what it does not.
Usernames
Your username is a public web address: it is what /u/yourname resolves to, and it is how people find your lists. Because the name on that page reads as a claim about who is speaking, we keep control of it.
We reserve the right to change, reclaim, block, refuse or disallow any username, at any time and without notice. In practice we do that when a name:
- impersonates ReccoBox, our staff, or a real person, business or brand — including names that only look like one, such as adm1n or reccobox_support;
- is reserved for the running of the service: administrative names, system names, and addresses on the site we may need;
- is offensive, misleading, or exists to be sold on;
- is being squatted — registered and left unused while someone else has a claim to it.
Some names are refused at sign-up automatically. Others we may reclaim later, including a name you already hold. Where we can, we will tell you first and let you pick another; sometimes — impersonation, most obviously — we will act first and tell you afterwards. A username is a licence to use a name on this service, not property, and you cannot sell or transfer one.
Your content, and what we may do with it
What you save is yours. You keep every right you had in it, and nothing here transfers ownership to us.
To run the service we need your permission to store it and to show it as you have asked us to: a private list to you, an unlisted list to anyone holding the link, a public list to anyone at all — including in search results, previews, and on your curator page. That permission lasts as long as the content is on ReccoBox, and ends when you delete it, except for copies someone else made while it was public.
We may remove, hide, restrict or refuse any content, list or account at any time, and may change or withdraw any part of the service. We do that for content that breaks the rules below, that we are required to remove, or that puts the service or the people using it at risk. We are not obliged to monitor what is posted, and we do not review lists before they appear.
What you may not do
- Break the law, or save content that infringes someone else’s rights.
- Post content that is hateful, harassing, sexual content involving children, or that threatens or endangers anyone.
- Impersonate a person, business or brand — in a username, a profile, or a list.
- Use the service to spam, phish, distribute malware, or advertise in disguise.
- Scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site beyond what a person reading it would do, or work around our rate limits.
- Try to reach lists, accounts or data that are not yours, or probe the service for weaknesses without asking us first. If you find something, please tell us — see below.
Other people’s lists
A list is one person’s opinion. We do not check recommendations, and saving a list does not mean we agree with it or vouch for anything on it. Links go to sites we do not run, and we are not responsible for what is on them.
Saving someone’s list bookmarks it — it stays theirs and keeps changing as they change it. Making your own version copies it at that moment. Either way, credit stays with the person who wrote it.
Our part of it
The ReccoBox name, the site itself and its design are ours. You may link to any page you can reach, and use the site as it is meant to be used. You may not copy the product, or use our name in a way that suggests we endorse you.
No promises about the service
ReccoBox is provided as it is, and as available. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that anything you save will always be there — please keep your own copy of anything you cannot lose. To the extent the law where you live allows it, we exclude the warranties that would otherwise be implied.
Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, ReccoBox is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for lost profits or opportunities. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Some countries do not allow some of these exclusions. Where that is so, they simply do not apply to you, and the rest still stands.
Ending it
You can stop using ReccoBox and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and — with reasonable notice where we can give it — we may stop offering the service. If we close your account for a reason other than a breach, we will give you a fair chance to take your lists with you.
Changes to these terms
We will update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top says when they last changed, and for anything significant we will say so on the site or by email. Carrying on using ReccoBox after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the United Arab Emirates, and the courts of Dubai, United Arab Emirates have jurisdiction.
Anyone can open ReccoBox, wherever they are, and choosing one country’s law does not take away rights you have at home. If the consumer law where you live gives you protections that cannot be signed away, you keep them, and you may bring a claim in your local courts where that law says you can.
